For operators of generators and energy systems, unplanned downtime almost always traces back to a single missing component. A sensor, a float unit, a filler cap or a block heater — small parts whose absence can take a critical system offline for days.

A critical spare-parts strategy starts by ranking components on two axes: how likely each is to fail, and how damaging its failure would be. Parts that score high on both belong in your on-site critical stock; the rest can be sourced on a planned lead time.

Certification matters more than it first appears. CE marking and ISO-certified processes are not paperwork for its own sake — they are the difference between a replacement part that drops in and performs, and one that introduces a new fault. For tendered and donor-funded work, the certificate trail is also an eligibility requirement.

Finally, plan for the parts that no longer appear in any catalogue. Obsolete and application-specific components are a frequent, avoidable cause of extended outages; custom manufacturing closes that gap and keeps ageing systems serviceable.
